The Best Hack: How to Clean A Masticating Juicer

Making fresh green juice is all fun and games until it’s time to clean your juicer. So, my dearest Divas, we’ll release you of that dread, and let’s talk about how to clean a masticating juicer properly. I’ll be honest, I love my masticating juicer, it’s literally a life-changer. But after I made my first juice in it, I was lost as to how to clean it. There are just so many parts that you have to attach and reattach.

The thing with masticating juicers is that you have to clean them right after use. They have very fine screens that filter the pulp that gives you that smooth, pulp-free juice. But these screens can be a headache to clean once the pulp dries in them. It’s true the juicer will push the dried pulps out but it’s unavoidable that some of it cling to the screen.

From my experience, centrifugal juicers are easier to clean. However, looking at the greater benefit I would yield to using a masticating juicer for the reason that juice extracted can last up to 72 hours, therefore I only have to clean it twice a week. Compared to centrifugal juicers where I would have to make juices every day since you have to consume them within 24 hours. And making juices every day means cleaning it every day too! Another famous buzz: masticating juicer with better juice yield? Is it a myth or a fact?

Masticating juicers do come with a hefty price tag, so you don’t want to mess it up just because you got lazy and didn’t clean it. Especially after making green juice from kale, wheatgrass, or celery. Those tough leaves can easily dry up and clog the strainers. Oh yes, it is a continuous process, finding which juicer best handles the ingredients you put into it. Worry not I found what is the best masticating juicer for wheatgrass and gladly sharing it with you.

Thankfully though, most masticating juicers come with their own set of cleaning tools. This makes cleaning easier and less demanding. So, you can take full advantage of the health benefits your juicer has to offer. For example, masticating juicers prevent you from getting bloated as it reduces oxidation introduced through the juicing process. There are more and beyond imaginable advantages once committed to a healthy lifestyle, excited? Then you should not miss learning what I have discovered as to what are the health benefits of a masticating juicer.

How Do I Clean My Masticating Juicer?

There are two ways I clean my masticating juicer. One is for when I use it daily or on a busy day, and the other is what I do at least once a week to deep clean it.

A quick, step-by-step guide:

  • Start by unplugging the juicer from the power source. We’ll be taking the pieces apart and we don’t want to accidentally turn it on while doing so. Especially once we get to the screen, they can be quite sharp so it will not be fun if it just starts working while you’re trying to take it off.
  • Carefully remove the filter and the pulp basket. Check for residual pulps in the nooks and crannies of the juicer’s interior as much as you can. This can harden and cling like cement into the machine which will be a headache to remove later or worse, cause it to malfunction.
  • Once you remove all the detachable parts, rinse them under warm running water. This helps remove oil, sticky juice residue, and soften dried pulp that got stuck in them. You want to make sure there is no debris left in every piece.
  • Now comes the fun part! Lol. Fill up half the sink with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Place all the detached parts in the water to soak. Use the cleaning brushes from the juicer’s cleaning kit to brush the individual pieces.
  • Rinse them well in warm running water and put them on the drying rack. You can leave the plastic parts to dry on their own if you have other stuff to attend to. But as for the metal pieces like the filter, it’s best to dry them manually to prevent them from rusting.
  • Lastly, you want to take a damp towel and wipe the body of the juicer that’s not washable. Make sure to remove all juice stains and debris that you neglected for the whole week. Then put the pieces back together and you can now enjoy a fresh glass of green juice!

Hopefully, this helps you in taking care of your masticating juicer. What other ways or hacks do you do to keep your juicer clean and healthy? Let me know in the comments below and maybe we can learn from each other! 😉
