After becoming a mom, I struggled with insecurities and losing weight. That’s until I discovered detox smoothies to shed belly weight. It’s the most realistic method of getting back to my pre-pregnancy body that I tried so far. And believe me, I tried all sorts of diet in hopes of losing the baby weight.

However, most diets take a lot of planning and looking for rare ingredients and can take hours to prepare. With detox smoothies, they use common fruits and greens that you might already have in your pantry or fridge. Then you just throw them in your blender or juicer, and you’re done! It’s very convenient that you can easily incorporate it into your daily routine.

What Is A Detox Smoothie?

A typical detox smoothie consists of fruits and vegetables (usually leafy greens) that are rich in fiber, antioxidants as well as various vitamins and minerals. This helps flush unhealthy fats and toxins from your body. Resulting in better metabolism and clearer skin.  Detox smoothies also reset your digestive system and your taste buds.

I usually take a detox smoothie after binging on unhealthy food for some days or a week (or a month, if I’m being completely honest😉). Like after a vacation or a holiday weekend. You can also drink it before starting on a new type of diet. Or if you’re simply feeling bloated or constipated. One glass of a detox smoothie will help a lot.

Trying A Detox Smoothie For The First Time

If you’re not big on fruits and veggies, detox smoothies can be an acquired taste. So, it’s best to start with ingredients that do not have strong flavors but are just as healthy. Choose flavors you are familiar with or that are easy on the taste buds.

I started by going with fruits that I like that are high in antioxidants like apples and berries. Then for the greens, I chose to go with baby spinach. It’s one of the most popularly used greens in healthy smoothies. It has a mild taste and is rich in various vitamins and minerals too. Baby spinach is known to provide magnesium, iron, and vitamins C, A, and K.

Then for the liquid base, oat milk or almond milk is the literal best for me. It goes very well with anything and makes it taste even better. I then add either chia or flax seeds then almond butter for extra protein. Trust me, it’s so much fun to make and is super delicious too!

Can Smoothies Help Lose Belly Fat?

YES – when done right. Smoothies will not magically flick the belly fat away. But when do it right, they will boost your metabolism, curb your appetite, flush toxins out your body, and help burn unhealthy fats. It goes without saying that you still have to watch what you eat and get enough sleep, try to get some sort of physical activity.

You also want to make sure you do enough research to make sure that you’re helping your body reach its best potential and not damaging it.

Are Smoothies A Good Way To Lose Weight?

YES. If done properly, smoothies can be a good way to lose weight. They are convenient, therefore helping you be consistent in your attempt to lose weight. Let’s admit it, sometimes preparing a full course meal plan, can be tiring, expensive, and time-consuming.

Smoothies take less time and effort to make. And when done properly, they can be just as healthy and effective than a regular whole food diet. It’s a good way to feed your body with fruits and vegetables and other key nutrients daily.

The key is in keeping it balanced. Some smoothie ingredients can be a full-on sugar bomb, so you want to make sure that you always add leafy greens and protein like various organic nut butter to counterbalance it and make it more effective.

How To Make Detox Smoothies For Flat Belly

When going on a detox smoothie journey, your blender will be your ultimate best friend. There are four main ingredients that go in a detox smoothie: fruit, greens, liquid base, and booster. Pick a smoothie recipe you want for the day and put your blender to work.

Remember to always, and I mean always, use fresh fruits and vegetables. Store-bought preserved or pureed fruits will have some sort of added chemical or sugar to it that you don’t need and will defeat the purpose of the detox. Insider tip: To make your smoothie taste even better, freeze the fruits overnight! This way you won’t need to add ice on the smoothie that may water it down.

How To Make A Green Smoothie For Weight Loss

Green Smoothie is the tastiest way to give your body the daily dose of nutrients that it needs. As the name suggests, green smoothies mainly consist of a handful of green leafy vegetables. This makes it rich in fiber that helps with digestion and burning unhealthy fats in the body.

When making a green smoothie, start with greens with a lighter flavor then slowly integrate greens with stronger flavor like kale and mustard greens. Some of these can be slightly bitter, so what you want to do is always blend your liquid base and greens first. This way you avoid getting chunks of greens in the drink. Then add your fruits and boosters., and you’re done!

The Smoothie Diet Weight Loss Program Review

My Smoothie Diet journey started after trying out Coach Drew Sgoutas’ The Smoothie Diet. Coach Drew is a Board-Certified Health Coach and Nutrition Expert. He created this 21-day carefully curated program consisting of various smoothie recipes.

The program follows a custom schedule, where the smoothies go in a specific order and recurrence to provide the best results. Every week you get a various nutrient and ingredient ratio to ensure that you keep losing weight and the weight that you lost don’t come back.

The Smoothie Diet Weight Loss Program comes with a bonus 3-Day Detox. This the best way to start the 21-day program especially if you’re coming from a pretty much unhealthy diet consisting of processed food, junk food, and fast food. The detox will clean up and reset your system. This helps your body prepare for the upcoming 3-week smoothie diet.

It also includes a weekly shopping list! So, you don’t have to go running around the store not knowing what to get. I ignored it in my first week because and to nobody’s surprise I had to go back to the store the next day because I forgot a bunch of things that I didn’t know I needed for the week. It’s also very helpful to go to the store knowing your purpose so you don’t “accidentally” end up in the candies and chips aisle.

The program recommends replacing one to two meals daily with a cup of smoothie. I chose to replace my breakfast and dinner with smoothies then eat whole food meals during lunch. Drinking a smoothie for breakfast makes it so much easier especially on busy workdays where I don’t have a lot of time to prep a whole meal. Before the program, I usually end up with iced coffee and a drive-thru breakfast burger. Which isn’t exactly healthy but was convenient at the time.

Then for lunch, I make a meal plan out of the whole food recipes that are also included in the program. It has a recommended list of whole food and snacks that you can eat between smoothies. Some of my favorites would be Bell Pepper Tacos and Balsamic Chicken Salad. They’re easy to make and so delicious it doesn’t even feel like I’m on a diet!

I take my second meal replacement smoothie for dinner. For two reasons. First, because most times I’m already too tired from a whole day’s work that I would end up with the friendly neighborhood drive-thru instead of making a proper meal. But a smoothie is just as filling and only takes about 5 minutes to make. Second, it is a known fact that our metabolism is slower at night, so I find that it’s best to drink a smoothie instead. Some of the smoothie recipes also include ingredients that are known to help you get better sleep!

In the end, I lost maybe about 10 to 12 pounds and gained a bunch of recipes that I still make until now. More than the recipes, it taught me the proper discipline that you need to continue this weight loss journey so that I don’t gain the weight back. It’s definitely a must-try!

Yes. While most fruits used in smoothies are packed with fiber, they also have calories and natural sugars. Therefore, you should not stack your smoothie with cups and cups of fruit, otherwise it might leave you feeling a pang of hunger in less than an hour. Top 5 Biggest Weight Loss Lies (Making You Fat)

There are a lot of myths surrounding weight loss. Let’s take a closer look at the Top 5 Biggest Weight Loss Lies circulating the internet:

The “After Six” Method – A lot of people believe that you shouldn’t eat after 6 PM in order to lose weight. This is not true at all. It doesn’t matter what time you eat but rather it’s what you eat that counts. Consuming a tub of ice cream at 5PM will still make you fat compared to eating a bowl of kale salad at 8PM.

Skip Breakfast – This is another common mistake that a lot of people make when trying to lose weight. Having a hearty and healthy breakfast will give your body enough energy to burn throughout the day. Starving yourself will only make your cravings stronger and a higher tendency to overeat.

“Fat-Free” = Healthy – This is not true 100% of the time. It’s still best to check nutrition information before consuming a snack. It may be “fat-free” but still have a high carb and sugar content.

All carbs are bad – This is not true at all. There are bad carbs and good carbs. Some examples of bad carbs are soda, candies, and other types of sugary food. Meanwhile, there are good carbs that are actually healthy for you. Like sweet potatoes, quinoa, oats, and leafy greens.

Focusing on calories – Losing weight is not just about calories. Weight loss is not about the number of calories, but the quality of calories that you intake. You need healthy calories from whole foods to help you feel full throughout the day.
